NAMONI Lodge

Named with the Karamojong word for a woman born in the wilderness, and the first community lodge on this side of Kidepo. Ten tented cabins with private verandas sit on more than thirty acres of conservancy twenty minutes from the Nataba gate, with wildlife moving freely between them and the park. The main lodge has a restaurant and bar looking out over the savanna. What sets it apart is not the tents but the arrangement behind them: a tenth of every bed night goes into a fund held by the Karenga and KKAAKKA Community Wildlife Associations, which decide together what it pays for, from schooling to health to conservation. Reach it on the road between Karenga and the Nataba gate, not on the park boundary road.

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Kidepo Valley National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside, and almost no booking site shows you that.

Rates

From $110 per person, B&B. The lodge gives $110 per person on bed and breakfast as its starting rate. Half board and full board are also offered, and the 2026-27 sheet publishes rack and tour operator rates side by side, which is unusually open for this region. Rates include the 10 per cent community levy and government taxes, and assume the current VAT exemption on accommodation. Bookings go by email rather than through a platform, with a 25 per cent deposit to confirm.

Rates gathered July 2026 from operators' own published rate cards where they exist. Kidepo is unusual: nine of the eleven properties we found publish no prices at all, and several widely-listed lodges could not be verified as operating. Where we show no price, none is published; always confirm directly. Buffalo Base Guesthouse and Campsite in Karenga village was on this list until July 2026. A contact on the ground reports it closed at the start of the year. We could not reach the property to confirm, so we have taken it off rather than send anyone eight kilometres to a locked gate. NAMONI Lodge, Zebra Safari Lodge and Katurum Kidepo Lodge were added on 28 July 2026 after a reader pointed out we had missed them. All three are Ugandan owned. NAMONI's entry comes from the lodge's own 2026-27 brochure. The other two publish nothing themselves, so their entries come from booking platforms, which we say plainly because it is a weaker source than we normally use.
